The Netherlands is preparing for security after the shooting in Utrecht .. And "terrorism" is not excluded
The Dutch police announced Monday that they were dealing with a shooting incident in the center of Utrecht and several injured people, confirming that the security forces and rescue teams rushed to the scene.
Utrecht police said the shooting took place in a tram in the square on October 24, and police urged the public to stay away from the scene and keep the roads open to facilitate rescue teams.
Central Dutch police spokesman Jost Lanshag said no one had been arrested. He added that three helicopters were sent to the scene of the accident in addition to ambulances and police.
Police confirmed that investigations were under way in the shooting and that they were taking into account the possibility that the motive was "terrorist". Counterterrorism in the Netherlands said security alert was raised to the fifth level, the highest level of preparedness, and that the situation would remain so for at least 18 hours.
Dutch military police spokeswoman Joanna Holmond told CNN that military police had beefed up security at all airports in the Netherlands after the Utrecht incident.
In the meantime, police in the Dutch city of Rotterdam, 60 km from Utrecht, announced the tightening of security around mosques and public transport stations after the shooting in Utrecht.
