Ginger Baker, one in all the foremost good, versatile and turbulent drummers within the history of British music, has died aged eighty.
His family had antecedently created it public that he was critically unwell and asked fans to “please keep him in your prayers”. His Facebook page said he “passed away peacefully” on Sunday morning.
Baker was born in 1939 in Lewisham, south London, and grew up amid the blitz; his father was killed in action in 1943. He began percussion in his mid-teens, memory in 2009: “I’d ne'er Sabbatumbehind a kit before, however I Sabbatumdown – and that i might play! one in all the musicians turned spherical and aforementioned, ‘Bloody hell, we’ve got a drummer’, and that i thought, ‘Bloody hell, I’m a drummer!’”
